The air was filled with joy and reverence as Dwelling Places, a Christian non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting children in street situations, celebrated its 28th anniversary with a thanksgiving ceremony.

Presided over by the organization’s founders, Mr. and Mrs. William Nkemba, the event was a heartfelt tribute to God’s faithfulness and the transformative impact of their work.

The venue brimmed with a diverse gathering of attendees, including staff, alumini, beneficiaries, child rights advocates and supporters, all united in gratitude. The program began with a spirited session of prayer and praise. “Today, we gather to thank the Lord for how far He has brought us,” The worshippers said.

Hymns of thanksgiving filled the room as attendees clapped, sang, and danced. The celebration was not just an acknowledgment of milestones but a powerful testament to faith, resilience, and hope.

One of the most emotional moments came when children who had been supported off the streets took the stage to share their stories. Now thriving as adults, they spoke with gratitude about how Dwelling Places had transformed their lives.

“I was lost, hopeless, and didn’t believe my life could amount to anything,” shared Daniel, a former street child who is now a university graduate. “But through Dwelling Places, I found a family, an education, and, most importantly, a belief in myself.” His testimony brought tears to many eyes, a poignant reminder of the organization's purpose.

Dwelling Places Country Director, Maureen Kitiibwa Muwonge noted that the organization has supported over 3300 vulnerable children over the years through provision of shelter, life skills, psycho-social support, education ,economic boost, healthcare  and vocational training.

Mr. Nkemba reflected on how the dream started. “When we started, all we had was a dream and faith in God. we looked at a child not children because every child is an individual. You never know who your next surgeon will be”
