Kampala — Grief and sorrow filled the air as families, community members, and well-wishers gathered to pray for four children who were brutally murdered in Ggaba.
The solemn gathering brought together parents, religious leaders, and community members in a moment of reflection, mourning, and unity following the tragic loss of young lives.
Tears flowed freely as prayers were offered for the souls of the children—Ignatius Sseruyange, Ryan Odeke, Keisha Ogenorwoth Otim, and Gideon Oteku—whose lives were cut short in a horrific incident that has shaken the nation.
Religious leaders called for strength and comfort for the grieving families, urging the community to stand together during this difficult time. Messages of hope, healing, and justice were echoed throughout the prayers.

“This is a painful moment not just for the families, but for all of us,” Pr. Peter Kasiriivu the head of Gaba Community Church noted.
Parents of the victims, overcome with emotion, expressed deep anguish over the loss of their children. Some called for justice, while others appealed to society to take greater responsibility in safeguarding children.

Speaking at the prayers, Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Dr. Balaam Barugahare, announced the reopening of schools near Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre that had been closed following the incident. He also handed over 10 million shillings to each of the bereaved families.
He further assured the public that the suspect will be brought to justice.

The suspect, Christopher Okello Anyum, has since been charged in connection with the murders and appeared before court earlier this week.
Child rights advocates have condemned the incident, describing it as a stark reminder of the urgent need to strengthen child protection systems across the country.
As candles were lit and prayers continued, one message stood out clearly children must be protected at all costs.
