Many girls cannot open up to the parents or teachers. This is because many are tough and cannot understand their reasons. These are some of the findings by High Sound for Children, during an interaction with teenage girls at Kingstone High School Kawempe. The girls say that they are afraid of what the teachers and parents would react especially if they tell them about their boyfriends.

Speaking the vice- chairperson of the board High sound for children, Ms Mercy Nalugo, the students revealed that some felt shy talking about issues of sexual reproductive health although they need help. Ms Nalugo advised them to always trust their parents first and open up about menstrual hygiene and reproduction.

“It is unfortunate that the girls cannot open to their parents especially mothers. These are the people that they are supposed to trust first and keep interacting with them”. She appealed to parents to always be best friends to their children so they can always advise them especially teenagers and youths in general.

High sound for Children advocacy officer, Ms Patricia Osman said the program will continue with a return visit to check on the progress of students in regards to the topics discussed and also spread to other schools.

“This is just the beginning, our desire is to every school because the girls need some discussions but we will endeavor to increase the number of schools in which we operate to ensure that the girl child is empowered” She emphasized. The project that runs in schools in meant to empower youths especially girls to make the right decisions about their life.
