High Sound for Children trains student- Journalists on Reporting on Children.

High Sound for Children has trained journalism students at Cavendish University on reporting on Children. This is intended to produce a generation of journalists who are well conversant with Child-reporting. The programme is to run in different higher institutions of learning and targeting students of mass communication. Child reporting is not included as a course for mass communication students and many practising journalists do not have the minimum reporting skills on Children. Speaking to the students, the chief executive officer, Mtoto News Jennifer Kaberi asked students to always look out for the interest of the children that they are covering. “Make sure the stories that you do not hurt the children further, please employ the Do no harm principle.” She cautioned them. The executive Director High Sound for Children walked the journalists through the basic reporting principles emphasizing that children should never be interviewed without consent from an adult. “I know journalists want news really fast, but are you sure, you are not exposing this child? Always seek the consent of an adult and please hide the identities of these children especially in cases of crime and violence.” She said. Daily monitor Children affairs editor Lydia Ainomugisha tipped students on basic newsroom rules when it comes to covering children.
