High Sound for children Uganda has partnered with the school of the Blind in Jjinja to have Amina Nabagesera, the five years old blind girl admitted to start school next year.
Amina was abandoned by her mother after losing both eyes and her father who succumbed to high blood pressure at the beginning of this year.
The five years old who now stays with her grandmother was yesterday introduced to Mr. Kenneth Kyarimpa, the director of the school of the blind in Jjinja.
Kyarimpa said Amina’s case is just one of the many cases they receive each year.
“We have 58 children in our home that is funded by Rotarians and some of them were abandoned. There is also a set of twins that was abandoned and we are yet to receive them”. Said Mr. Kyarimpa.
He says they look after children who are totally blind, partially blind while others have raw vision. He says the children attend school at Spire road primary school with other children but are taught differently.
“We have trained many children who have studied up to university and turned into responsible citizens, being blind is not the end of the road”. He said
The executive director High Sound for Children Ms Hadijah Mwanje thanked the school for taking on Amina and pledged that the organization will take care of her necessities.
The education officer in charge of special needs department at Jinja Municipal council, Mr. Haruna Mulopa said it is sad that some members of the community still fear to associate with people with disabilities especially children.
He however says they will continue to sensitize the public about the plight of the disabled and appealed for support to have such children attain education.
The school donated clothes to Amina and a ball used by the blind.
