CHILDREN NEED MORE PROTECTION

Uganda Youth Development Link has called for more action to protect children. It follows release of a report dubbed the scale, scope and context of the sexual exploitation of children in Uganda which has revealed increased cases of sexual exploitation of children. Speaking at the launch of the report, the organization’s executive director Rogers Kasirye said while some efforts have been done to address the problem including putting legislation in place, there remain glaring gaps. He now recommends review of the laws on protection of children and quick adoption of the sexual offences bill. Meanwhile, the organization’s deputy executive director Anna Nabulya calls for translation of key legislation, policies and guidelines related to sexual exploitation of children into local languages.
