Watoto Church says 14 of its choir members tested positive and of these seven are children.
Yesterday the president announced that the number of COVID19 cases had risen to 44 after 11 children from Watoto Church tested positive.
In a statement from Watoto church, the Associate leader of the church, Pastor Julius Rotionyo said the first pediatric case was confirmed on the 27th of March 2019 and yesterday 6 more children tested positive.
This brings to 7, the total number of children confirmed positive for COVID 19 and seven more adults that also tested positive.
He however says the only team that was affected was that that travelled to the United Kingdom.
“Thankfully, none of the adults or children on the choir returning from Canada has shown any signs of the virus. All of the Watoto Children and adults and mothers are in our Watoto villages remain unexposed to the virus and are safe and healthy”. says Pr. Rwotionyo.
Meanwhile Dr. Christine, a pediatrician from the infectious disease institute of Kenya says many children can test positive for COVID 19 despite the absence of signs like in adults.
She says signs of COVID are usually mild in children but this doesot mean that children are not affected. She advises parents to ensure that their children stay home and regularly wash their hands with soap and water.
She also allayed fears that the virus can be passed on from a pregnant mother to the child.
“There is no single confirmed case of a mother who transmitted COVID to their children through pregnancy and to breast feeding mothers, breast feed your infants even if you have to use a mask, please do”. She said in a webinar with Mtoto news, in Kenya.
