11 children have today perished in a fire that gutted their school dormitory at Salaama school for the Blind in Mukono.
According to police the fire whose cause is yet to be established broke out at about 1 am at the school found in Ntazi Parish, Ntenjeru Kisoga town council in Mukono district.
The deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan police Luke Owoyesigyire says 6 other children are confirmed to be in critical hospital and admitted at Herona Hospital in Kisoga
He adds that the Police at Mukono have commenced investigating the cause of the fire outbreak
Meanwhile the Minister of State for the disabled Hellen Asamo who has rushed to the affected School says they will use scientific measures to identify the remains against their relatives asking government to take part in the burial arrangements since this is a tragedy.
She further said the Matron of the school should support the investigations since she reportedly left the scene as soon as the inferno started.
This is not the first time children are perishing in school fires.
