Raising Voices rewards Teachers

Raising Voices has rewarded outstanding teachers as the Country joined the rest of the World to commemorate World Teachers Day 2022.

The day was celebrated under the theme: “The transformation of education begins with teachers”. Raising voices rewarded teachers who have not only played their roles but also impacted other teachers and learners.

Speaking at the rewarding ceremony held at Hotel Africana, State Minister for Education, Dr. Joyce Kaduchu Moriku appreciated teachers and encouraged them to role-model good behavior to learners.

“I want to appreciate the teachers for the job well done. Please continue being a good example to learners, teach creatively using simple and relatable examples.” Dr Moriku said.

The Executive Director, Raising Voices Abigail Kajumba thanked teachers for the outstanding work they are doing in creating good schools in Uganda.

Mariam Nakiyingi, a teacher at Emirates High School, Nkoowe is one of the outstanding teachers who was celebrated. Mariam supports other schools to create a conducive learning environment.

Speaking at the rewarding ceremony, Mariam appealed to fellow teachers to stop using corporal punishment as a disciplinary method because it doesn’t help children learn.

“Why would a teacher become a scarecrow? Why would a teacher make a learner drop out of school? We need to reflect as teachers”. Mariam advised.

World Teachers Day is celebrated every year to celebrate teachers and the great work they do to educate the Nation.
